Document Tracking using RFID
Save Time, Reduce Errors
SageData is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
RFID tags are small and thin enough to be added to document boxes or to specific documents, even
to one page letters or memos. This helps in tracking a document from arrival to departure, and also to
locate documents which may have been mis-filed.
An RFID document tracking system can be used not only
for documents in storage, but also for active documents. For one client, a file needed to be moved through
several stages of action and checking. RFID enabled file folders to be quickly identified when additional
documents needed to be added.
A patent attorney office used the system to find individual files when
required, from an active roster of three thousand files spread randomly over twelve offices. Another client
used the system to ensure that all highly secure documents were returned to the vault at COB (Close of
Business).
So, using RFID tags may cost (just a little bit) more than regular barcode labels, but
when used appropriately, they save time and reduce errors, offering an attractive ROI.
