Summary
The requirement here was for a system to help manage several thousand peices of safety equipment on a large campus. The equipment included standard fire protection equipment, as well as equipment specific to this particular site. The tool was to achieve three functions: to assiste personnel in conducting inspections; to track the inspections performed, and to provide an audit trail to satisfy an external auditor.
Background
Safety equipment provides a very special philosophical challenge. Equipment must be ready when called on, so inspections must be frequent. The reliability of the equipment must be high, so the incidence of failures must be low. In simple terms, the inspectors may check hundreds or thousands of items before finding a defect. In these circumstances it is more difficult to ensure that all inspections are done on time, and to standard.
The solution.
SageData's BassetPro system gives the user organisation the ability to define an inspection sequence, and to link this to specific equipments. Inspectors are then directed to a particular location, and piece of equipment, and given a sequence of inspections to perform. The result of each inspection is captured for subsequent reporting. The sequence is determined by the "age" of the last inspection. text
