A powerful and Versatile Hand held computer. That is how they describe the Workabout Pro, a new hand held computer from Psion Teklogix. This machine shares much with its big sister, the model 7535, but inherits the concept of modular growth from its predecessor, the Workabout MX. The 7535 shows its Teklogix influence and history. The 7525, aka the Workabout Pro, is more influenced by the Psion part of the company.
The workabout pro can be ordered in many configurations. The keyboard can be long or short (full alpha or just numeric). The screen can be colour or greyscale. Barcodes can be read with either a laser module or imager, which can be mounted under or on top of the unit. There is space for additional modules for RFID readers, and for a variety of wireless options, including Bluetooth, 802.11x and cellular. Other options considered for the future include magnetic card readers.
Psion Teklogix take great care with the introduction of new models, and SageData worked with the product team to verify some of the design issues close to the release date. We were fortunate enough to receive a pre-release version of the product for testing, and ported much of our software to this new product as part of the pre-release verification testing.
SageData's BassetPro AMS (Asset Management Software) is now available for this platform - one of the first "real" applications to be running on this new machine.
