Overview
RFID is a new emerging technology, aimed primarily at supply chain applications. But the same technology can be used to improve Asset Management Processes, enabling faster collection of data and confirmation of assets.
What is RFID?
RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is a technology that enables a reader to exchange information with a small chip that can be placed on an object that is to be tracked or managed. In function, it is similar to a barcode, with the advantage that the reader does not need to "see" the tag. It can be placed behind an item, or inside a box or cover. But there are some limitations to RFID technology. See RFID Myths for more detail.
What is BassetPro?
BassetPro is an asset management system introduced by SageData in the late 1990's. It has been constantly evolving to use the latest technology. Users include the Federal Government of Canada, with over 30% of Federal Government Organisations using BassetPro, in Ottawa and across Canada. Private sector organisations including some of Canada's largest high tech companies, have used BassetPro to help manage assets and operations. For Federal Government clients, BassetPro is available on Standing offer.
What is included?
BassetPro is a complete solution. For most clients, we provide the "five pillars" - design verification (for the overall project), software, hardware, tags (barcode or RFID), and, perhaps most important, ongoing support.
The latest release...?
Adds the ability to use RFID tags. A mobile reader is used to collect tag information, and can read tags at up to two metres. The machine can read multiple tags in a single read, which means that data collection is fast, easy and accurate. An auditor can capture the contents of a cubicle in a single trigger press, which significantly reduces the interruption to the occupant.
